
Black Beacon Parking, Camping and Eating Options
This page provides details of the various event parking and camping options available for each of the main event locations in Hay-on-Wye, Llangynidir and Pontneddfechen.
Black Beacon 100mile, 50mile and NORTH (Trail) Race Finish in Hay-on-Wye
EVENT PARKING/ CAMPING:
Event parking for cars and camper vans for the Black Beacon 100, 50 miles and Trail race participants and spectators is available in
the field next to Cusop Hall. Parking here opens at 10am on the Friday and is available until Sunday morning at 1000. The cost is £5 for cars, £10 for camping per night and £10 for camper vans per night. Strictly NO FIRES allowed, and dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
The ground is not suitable for motorhomes, but there are plenty of caravan parks and campsites in the surrounding areas. The main car park in Hay-on-Wye also allows overnight parking for 1 night.
As Cusop Hall is in a residential area please DO NOT park on the roads / outside people’s properties. Any participants or spectators parking on the immediate roads outside the hall will be disqualified from the race. Alternative parking options are available in the main town.
PLACES TO STAY:
There is a wide range of accommodation available in Hay-on-Wye from B&B’s, hotels and Airbnb properties. There is also a list of suitable locations in Brecon below.
TOILETS:
There will be porta loos and a shower unit outside Cusop Hall. There are a limited number of toilets inside the hall reserved for staff and runners only.
WHERE TO EAT:
There is a very wide range of places to eat (and drink) in Hay on Wye with the Old Black Lion pub around the corner being the closest.
Black Beacon 50mile and Black Beacon SOUTH (50km) Race Start in Pontneddfechan
PARKING:
There is very limited parking in and around the Village Hall which is the race start for the 50 mile and 50km runners and the half way point for the 100mile runners. There is an overflow parking area available to use at Dinas Rock which is a short distance away (2min) and also parking in the main village which is approximately 1km up the road.
DROP OFF AT THE RACE START:
If you are being dropped off, please do so at Dinas Rock Forest Car Park which is a 2 minute walk to the hall. Please refrain from parking or dropping off on the residential roads close to the hall or outside the hall.
WHERE TO STAY:
Camping is available at the event base in Hay on Wye (please see details above).
TOILETS:
There will be porta loos outside the Hall, but no showers.
WHERE TO EAT:
Dai at the Hall will have the café open early on Saturday morning with some delicious breakfast baps and coffee. There is also the Angel Inn pub a short walk away serving delicious meals if you are there at other times.
Black Beacon SOUTH (50km) Race Finish and Black Beacon NORTH (21mile) Trail Race Start in Llangynidr
PARKING:
The main car park opposite the Village Hall is available for CARS ONLY. Please park considerately and the community kindly request you make a donation of £5 in the donation box in the car park.
If this car park is full, or you are in a camper van or Motorhome there is space at the large Coach and Horses pub car park in the village, a quarter or a mile further along the B4558. Overnight parking is £10 per night payable at the bar. For day parking, use the pay and display machine, but if the pay and display isn’t working the pub have asked you pay inside at the pub.
The Pub will be open from 8am so if you arrive before (50km runner) then you may park up and pay inside on your return.

CAMPING:
Camping is available at the event base in Hay on Wye (please see details above).
ACCOMODATION:
There are rooms available at the Red Lion and the Coach and Horses.
TOILETS:
Toilets are available inside Llangynidir Village Hall for participants throughout the event. There are additional public toilets open for 24 hours directly next to the hall / opposite the car park. The local council who run the hall have asked us to highlight that they have had issues with running event participants urinating in the car parks and fields recently which is unacceptable and therefor anyone caught urinating outside will be instantly disqualified from the race. It is important for the trail and ultra running community as a whole to show respect to the local people and areas at all costs and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.
WHERE TO EAT:
The Red Lion pub opposite the Village Hall will be open for lunches and supper as well as the Coach and Horses up the road. There is also a café at the bottom end of the village near the medieval river bridge open for fabulous breakfast and coffee.
There is also a local shop/ petrol station.
